- Importance of PLM
Digital Transformation in an Adverse Environment
Jerry Richhart, Allison Transmission
Join us to see what Allison Transmission is doing to develop a Digital Transformation Roadmap and build capability at pace.
“Taking the Right Steps at the Right Time” is easier said than done. Learn how Allison Transmission has divided their massive journey into smaller pieces, implemented their roadmap in stages, and structured their small team to maximize the power of their people.
Jerry Richhart has successfully implemented Model-Based Definition on an aerospace engine program with high leadership support for MBD/MBE. He is now driving digital transformation efforts at Allison Transmission, a leading manufacturer of commercial-duty automatic transmissions and hybrid propulsion solutions.
A Former Insider’s Guide to Model-Based Technical Data in the DOD
Ben Kassel, LMI
Longtime 3D CIC member Ben Kassel will take us on a journey into MBD and the DoD. Learn more about government technical data needs, the purpose and history of the DoD Engineering Data and Manufacturing Working Group, what the future holds for government technical data, and a little bit about intellectual property and rights in technical data.
Ben says, “I can no longer count the number of years I have been involved in the acquisition of model-based technical data. All I can say is it has been tough. It is as if we are trying to purchase something that the program offices do not want to buy, from suppliers that do not want to sell. Compound this with CAD vendors that really do not have much of an incentive to develop translators that in effect provide a gateway to their competition.”
But times are changing. 3D Model-based technical data is no longer a ‘nice-to-have,’ it is a ‘need to have.’ This presentation will be a look into the needs for a harmonized policy at the highest DoD executive level, buy-in at the user level to follow specific modeling guidelines, and the discipline by mid-level managers to enforce the policies.
Solving The People Piece: Social Science Tools For Successful MBE Adoption
Rhiannon Gallagher, Action Engineering
The technical tools are often the easy part. Join social scientist Rhiannon Gallagher as she introduces you to the social science tools behind successful MBE adoption. She will take a group of Action Engineering Personas through some of the ways we can make this an organizational change, not just an engineering one.
Meet the personas of 3D CIC to learn what personas are and why they’re so important.
An Analysis of Digital Readiness
Philip Jennings, Newport News Shipbuilding
This presentation will share the journey Newport News Shipbuilding has been on concerning digital transformation. We will begin with identifying why it can be so challenging for companies to change and provide a framework of people, processes, and tools for digital readiness. Then we will provide a practical approach based on lessons learned to your own transformations. This presentation will provide strategic insight into how to focus your business on the right opportunities, gain alignment internally, and lessons learned related to the journey.
Learn how Newport News Shipbuilding is leveraging existing digital readiness models to answer these strategic questions:
- How do we gain alignment across the organization?
- Are we focusing on the right projects and programs to shake-out success?
- Are we spending the budget on the right things?
- How do we turn a digital readiness model into actionable roadmaps, next steps, and projects which provide measurable results?
Philip Jennings shares a summary of the HII-NNS plans to meet these digital readiness models.
Joys & Challenges as a Supplier in the Automotive Industry
Daniel Madureira, DBM Reflex
Hear how DBM Reflex has overcome challenges with incoming customer CAD data, use cases, and ROI considerations in the automotive industry. They’ve discovered benefits both in CAD and in some MBE applications by using automated solutions like Elysium’s DirectTranslator and CADdoctor.
Daniel Madureira shares their solutions to these questions and many more:
- How did we decide to venture into the world of CAD PDQ and “healing”?
- What challenges were making us spend hundreds of hours in redesign and reverse engineering?
- How can we use Elysium’s DirectTranslator and CADdoctor to ensure that customer requirements are met during manufacturing operations?
- Why are 3D PDFs being used as reference documents after multi-CAD translation?
- What kind of ROI can be expected and how we approached it?
- How to explain to management that 3D CAD files play a major role in turnaround times?
- What makes DBM Reflex stand out in the automotive industry?
The presentation will be delivered in English, and we invite our French- and Portuguese-speaking colleagues to join us for the Q&A as well.
Standards Rendezvous: An Interoperability Roundtable
ASME, DMSC, SAE, DEDMWG, ISO TC 184/SC 4
How do the standards support 3D CAD interoperability, and what are their future plans for continued growth? What challenges do they face on their journey?
Expert representatives from the ASME, DMSC, SAE, DEDMWG, and ISO TC 184/SC 4 standards organizations will participate in a roundtable discussion of interoperability and the ways in which they’re looking to the future.
CAD Hackathon with Sigmetrix
We all like to think we can tolerance our parts in accordance with ASME Y14.5, but the tolerancing game isn’t always as easy as it seems! Use the CAD system of your choice to annotate the provided hinge assembly so that the components’ GD&T satisfy the design requirement to keep the door located and oriented to the door frame when the door is closed.
Enter your best show of tolerancing for a chance to win prizes up to $100. Submissions will be judged using Sigmetrix’ GD&T Advisor to validate the suggested approaches, and CETOL 6σ to determine & show the functional differences between submitted entries.
Join us at the Home Edition event to view the winning submissions, along with an expert explanation of the GD&T principles involved.
