Reap the Benefits of Smart Manufacturing – 3D CIC Keynote

KC Morris of the National Institute of Standards and Technology will deliver one of the keynote addresses at the 2017 3D Collaboration and Interoperability Congress. 3D CIC and the Quality Information Framework Symposium will be held in Golden, Colorado on October 3-5, 2017.

Presentation

Are You Ready to Reap the Benefits of Smart Manufacturing?

  • Macroeconomic justification for Smart Manufacturing
  • Benefits of Smart Manufacturing
  • How do you know if you/your suppliers are ready to deploy Smart Manufacturing?

Smart manufacturing has been hailed as the next industrial revolution – but is it? And if so, how do practitioners become part of it? In this talk, Ms. Morris discusses the opportunities smart technologies will bring to manufacturers. From the macroeconomic perspective, she looks at opportunities in the value chains, the environment, and the workforce. Then, she discusses organizational factors—from the cultural to the operational—that influence smart manufacturing readiness. Finally, she describes ongoing standards-based activities that make it easier for manufacturers to introduce smart practices into their workplace. From the enterprise throughout its operations and in the supply chain, new research is helping to identify the steps needed to understand where and how to introduce the new technologies and how to measure their success.

KC Morris
Smart Manufacturing Systems Design and Analysis Associate Program Manager
National Institute of Standards and Technology

KC Morris leads the Information, Modeling and Testing Group in the Engineering Lab at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). She is a Computer Scientist with extensive expertise in standards supporting manufacturing systems integration. Currently, her work focuses on infusing smart technologies into the manufacturing sector while ensuring that new practices lead to more sustainable manufacturing. This includes identifying and developing techniques for designing, testing, and evaluating smart manufacturing systems and standards. She has worked on ISO 10303 (a.k.a. STEP) standards for product data definition and is currently the vice-chair of ASTM E60.13 on Sustainable Manufacturing working on standards for manufacturing process evaluations.

3D CIC + QIF Symposium

The 3D Collaboration & Interoperability Congress featuring the Quality Information Symposium focuses on 3D CAD collaboration and interoperability for the entire product lifecycle. With the 2017 theme of UNITE: Engineering & Shop Floor Collaboration, real users share their experiences with turning design concepts into manufacturing product reality using 3D models. The joint 3D CIC and QIF Symposium event will be held October 3-5, 2017 at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden, Colorado. Find out more and register for 3D CIC + QIF Symposium at 3dcic.com.
