3D PDF Implementation at DLA by Ben Jilson of LMI
3D PDF TDPs power DLA cataloguing, provisioning, procurement, and quality assurance processes.
Technical Data Packages (TDPs) contain the foundational data used to procure, manufacture, and ensure the quality of Class IX parts. As engineering and manufacturing capabilities and techniques evolve and modernize, the format and content of TDPs must evolve and modernize as well. In the last few decades Industry has been in the midst of a transition to Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), which produce and rely upon 3D model-based technical data. The Department of Defense (DoD) has been slow to embrace this transition, causing a disconnect between typical DoD and DLA standards for technical data and those of the Industrial Base. However, the transition is speeding up, meaning DLA has a need to determine how it will do business using 3D model-based data. This presentation provides a summary of a series of demonstrations and pilots using 3D PDF TDPs to power DLA cataloguing, provisioning, procurement, and quality assurance processes. It presents the benefits of 3D PDF as a neutral Data format.

3D Collaboration & Interoperability Congress
The 3D Collaboration & Interoperability Congress (3D CIC) focuses on 3D CAD collaboration and interoperability for the entire product lifecycle. The 2019 theme of Trust Digital showcasing organizations that have evolved to trusting digital: tracking their product’s condition digitally at each stage of the product lifecycle. 3D CIC 2019 will be held October 7-11, 2019 at the Buffalo Rose Events Center in Golden, Colorado.
