The Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) journey at TFH technical services started at NIST’s Model-Based Enterprise Summit in 2012. They’ve since implemented Model-Based Definition (MBD) for manufacturing of conveying systems for chicken slaughtery. Full production with zero drawings.
TFH works together with Software Factory and B&W Software in Europe to investigate the latest practical methods for re-using models in MBD and MBE today. Title: Model-Based Inspection: Using PMI & Color-Coding with Coordinate Measuring Machines
Abstract: TFH technical services started with Model-Based Definition (MBD) in December 2012 after attending NIST’s Model-Based Enterprise Summit in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Our first job was setting up a project to be 100% MBD (zero drawings) in combination with a product configurator from Software Factory. This reduced the time needed to create a conveyor from 40 hours down to less than 1.5 hour. This project uses zero drawings still today.
We are currently working on the Model-Based Inspection and Model-Based Manufacturing side of MBD/MBE. There is a lot to be gained from transferring Product and Manufacturing Information (PMI) to coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems. We are currently working on an application to extract welding trajectories from 3D Creo weld assemblies to use on programmed welding robots. This results in an 80% time reduction for programming welding robots. Using this example, our presentation will focus on Model-Based Inspection using PMI and color-coding with coordinate measuring machines.
Bio: Henk Jörg and Patrick Kerkhof own TFH technical services, an engineering company (with 8 people) in the Netherlands that specializes in implementing MBD in small to mid-sized companies. We use PTC software with Windchill PLM, and we have our own Windchill server where we can test MBD/MBE projects for customers. We are now 5 years into our MBD/MBE journey. We are members of the PTC/USER Technical Committees and also created a Technical Committee in Europe where 20 large companies come together to talk about MBE twice a year. Companies like Braun, Festo, and ZF, to name a few. Additional to PTC software, we use software from Software Factory and B&W Software (both in Germany) that are sophisticated toolkit applications integral to our MBD/MBE journey.
