ASME Seeks Subject Matter Experts: Monitoring, Diagnostics, and Prognostics for Advanced Manufacturing
Jennifer Herron, CEO of Action Engineering participates in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Y14 standards committee meetings. The last meeting was held October 22-26, 2018 in St. Louis, Missouri where a new subcommittee was formed, and objectives were defined at that meeting.
Subcommittee:
ASME Subcommittee on Advanced Monitoring, Diagnostics, and Prognostics for Manufacturing
Subcommittee Charter:
Develop guidelines that advance the design and implementation of monitoring, diagnostic, and prognostic capabilities, along with ways of verifying and validating their performance, to enhance adaptive maintenance and operational control strategies within manufacturing.
Subject Matter Experts Needed:
ASME now seeks subject matter experts to aid in the development of guidelines and standards in support of the above Charter.
Why You Should Participate:
This subcommittee will bring the manufacturing equipment and process monitoring, diagnostic, and prognostic community together to provide input into the development of both the committee and the subsequent guidelines and standards that would be developed within this committee. Your organization’s interests and your experience are thoroughly considered throughout the development process. By aiding in the development of guidelines, you contribution will benefit the industry in many ways, including:
- Cost/benefit analyses and return on investment guidelines
- Data collection strategy and data‐fusion/analysis guidelines to enhance intelligence for maintenance and control decision‐making
- Guidelines for small, medium, and large manufacturers to design, implement, and assess their own monitoring, diagnostic, and prognostic capability programs
Who Should Participate:
Original Equipment Manufacturers (e.g., equipment and sensor manufacturers)
Technology Integrators
Software Developers
Manufacturing Process/Equipment Operators
Maintenance Personnel
Process Engineers
Advanced Manufacturing Researchers
Subcommittee participation promotes sharing of best practices among the manufacturing community and the development of guidelines to serve the industry. Committee participation is free and open to anyone with an interest in the subject area and who can offer appropriate technical expertise.
